If you are denied for a loan, what is the next step?

If you are denied for a loan, there are several steps you can take to improve your creditworthiness and your chances of approval¹:

1. Review and build your credit score: Check your credit report for errors and take steps to improve your credit score. You can do this by paying bills on time, reducing debt, and keeping credit card balances low.

2. Pay down other debts: Lenders typically look for a debt-to-income ratio (DTI) under 36 percent. If you have other debts, consider paying them down before applying for another loan.

3. Look for ways to raise your income: Consider taking on a part-time job or freelance work to increase your income.

4. Reapply with a co-signer: If you have a co-signer with good credit, you may be able to reapply for the loan with their help.

5. Consider alternative lenders: If traditional lenders have denied you, consider alternative lenders such as online lenders or peer-to-peer lending platforms.

It's important to note that if you are denied a loan, it's not the end of the world.

Take some time to review your finances and credit report, and work on improving your creditworthiness before applying again¹.
